The Vicuña
It lives in the Andean Region of differents
countries of South America such as Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru. It is
the Camelidos´ family such as: llama and alpaca. It always lives in family. The
vicuña is of average height 1,20 mts and
its weight it about 70 kg. It is so fast that people can not catch easily.
They can eat about 3 kg of grass in on day.
They eat only grass for example leguminous plants such as “tolas”,
“quihuincha”, “rica-rica”, gramineas “esporal” and other.
The vicuña is in danger of extinction
because of people are hunting it for its
wool, it is very expensive and many clothes are made with it, for example the
best “ponchos” in the world. So it also is hunted for its meat for people who
live in those places.
Because
of they are wild animals, to protect
them is necessary that they be domesticated like the llama and the alpaca for
the “esquila”.-
